____________

Almost 7 years have passed since our family joined UUCC, and every year I find yet another reason to come...

I come so that my children can belong to a community who values their questions and teaches them to take responsibility for their answers.

I come here to hear your truth, your point of view, because it always changes me and change is the catalyst for growth.

I come here to feel, because a week’s worth of news leaves me numb.

I come here because I am grateful for my life and circumstances, and gratitude begs for a community to share it with.

I come not just because I am a free-thinker – but so that I can be among free-thinkers.

I come here because even when I disagree with any of you, the depth of our shared values transcends the width of our differences.

This is my 50th year here on planet Earth and, in the spirit of entitlement, I will share with you that these days I feel wiser than at least half the world. What I believe more than ever, is that the future of our world lies in belonging to a place like UUCC where we value building bridges to other cultures and other religions, a place which compels me to use integrity in my thoughts and intentions, and finally a place which gives me the courage to speak my truth.

Mission Statement
Our congregation provides a welcoming community that cherishes diverse perspectives. We honor the lifelong learning process of religious education and spiritual growth. We commit ourselves through caring and nurturing service to make a positive difference in the larger community. We make our values real.

Where We Meet
The Unitarian Universalist Community Church meets each Sunday at 10:00 am at 10441 Shaver Road, Portage MI 49024 [map]. There are no services during the month of July.

Our Minister
Our interim minister for the 2008-2009 church year will be Rev. Gary Gallun. He will be preaching at UUCC twice a month.

Our Members
Our congregation is comprised of people with diverse interests, exceptional talents, and unique experiences. We dress casually, speak openly and smile readily. We invite you to stay after the service for coffee hour so we can get to know you.

Religious Education
UUCC offers weekly religious education classes for children and youth. A nursery is available for infants and toddlers. Typically, children take part in the first portion of the adult service, then leave for their Religious Education classes.

More information about the RE curriculum.

Adult Religious Education is provided as demand requires. Classes usually last four to six weeks. Please see the calendar for current offerings.

Activities and Events
UUCC members enjoy having fun together. That's why the church sponsors several regular events such as the Summer Outdoor Picnic. Potlucks are held monthly on every third Sunday after worship services. . Intergenerational Fun Nights are held periodically throughout the year.   Much more is happening! Please see the calendar for upcoming events.

Choir Our church would not be complete without a choir. The mixed voices sing once a month at our church service and are always looking for new talent.

Faith in Action We look for ways for us to make our values real in the larger community. For example, members volunteer regularly with Habitat For Humanity.

Small Groups The church sponsors a variety of group activities. We hope you find something that interests you and we invite you to share your experiences and knowledge with other members. Most groups meet monthly. For more information on each of these groups please contact the office.

Our Governance
UUCC is governed by a board of trustees that meets monthly and is elected by the congregation at an annual meeting. The congregation makes all major decisions. Each Unitarian Universalist church is autonomous and self-governing.

Becoming a Member
The membership committee holds semi annual orientation meetings for those people that are seriously interested in joining UUCC. This provides an opportunity for you to learn about our church, our minister and Unitarian Universalism in an intimate small-group setting. Please see the calendar for the date of the next meeting, or e-mail info@uucommunitychurch.org.
