At Unitarian Universalist Community Church (UUCC), we identify strongly with the seventh principle of the Unitarian Universalist Association:

Respect for the independent web of all existence of which we are a part.

As individuals, we do our best to live up to this every day in an environmental sense on an individual level in our homes, schools, and workplaces.

We have a Sustainability Group which meets once a month to allow participants to reflect on their personal sustainability journeys, to share their successes and failures, and to explore ideas for promoting sustainable living at UUCC and in the wider community.

Some examples of improvements that have been made in our building include:

  • Swapping out incandescent bulbs for eco-friendly models
  • Removing sections of parking lot asphalt to plant perennial gardens and trees
  • Replacing candelabra-style lighting in the sanctuary with lower energy options
  • Recycling our trash and serving as a collection site for styrofoam and plastic bottle cap recycling
  • Running our heating and cooling systems on a timer, when the building is occupied
  • Installing a Rain Garden to absorb runoff from our parking lot
  • Transitioning to a paperless order of service

The Sustainability Group sponsors a 30-Day Sustainability Challenge during Earth Month in April to encourage people in the community to find ways to live more gently on the earth.  Click HERE to take part in the next Challenge.

We support organizations in our community and nationally that are working to combat climate change.  These include

We are always eager to do more, as time and funding permit. Come and help us – we are always open to ideas and enthusiastic participants!
